Japan Web3 Weekly: August 18th, 2024 Digest #3

Welcome to Japan Web3 Weekly, your 5-minute recap of the Japanese web3 market’s pulse every Sunday! 🚀

This week has been relatively quiet on the domestic Web3 news front. Perhaps companies are busy preparing for WebX, which kicks off on August 28th. Let’s dive into the highlights!

This Week’s Highlights:
1. 🍶 Japanese Sake NFT Marketplace Prepares for Global Expansion
– Sake World NFT allows users to purchase sake like a regular online shop, as well as age, store, and trade sake between individuals.
– A key feature: Unlike traditional sake sales restricted to licensed dealers due to Japanese regulations, this marketplace enables unlicensed general users to buy and sell sake.
– To boost the sake industry, a portion of each successful trade between users is returned to the sake brewery as royalties.
– The project has been selected for a government-sponsored initiative and will partner with Singapore-based Digital Entertainment Asset Pte. Ltd. (PlayMining) for a global expansion, focusing on Singapore.

2. 🌞 Solana Community’s Superteam Japan Hosts Major Conference in Tokyo
– Superteam Japan, launched this year with a grant from Solana Foundation, is hosting a full-day conference called “Super Tokyo” in Shibuya on August 18th.
– Speakers from prominent Solana projects like Backpack, Orca, and Jupiter are expected to participate, with hundreds of attendees anticipated.
– Unique format: Instead of panel discussions, the event features debate-style sessions. Topics include “Do airdrops contribute to long-term project value?” and “Should Bitcoin’s core principles be compromised for wider crypto adoption?”
– The goal is to stimulate intellectual curiosity rather than determine debate winners.
